I brought the head of the match to the wick, allowing the greedy little flame to taste at it before engulfing it completely. The match was then shaken out, allowed to cool for a few seconds and then placed gently in my small, metal garbage can. My attention returned to the candle, which I cradled between my two hands, one of which rose slightly to shield the flame as I started to make my way down my hallway, its shadowy cloak retreating from the bright, dancing little flame. I made my way to the staircase, sitting on the third step from the bottom. I was momentarily distracted as the little spark gave a particularly beautiful twitch.

She bought an apple from the market every Sunday. She never bought anything else, never laid a finger on another item, never seemed to even steal another unfaithful glance at any of the other produce. The time that she arrived seemed to vary slightly, but it usually fell between 10:00 a.m. and noon. The only times that I ever heard her voice were in those moments that I spent ringing her up. Long Time...

...No see.  Guess I haven't been very active, have I?  Life caught up with me, I suppose.  I finally found a purpose for my life, and that gets to be very time consuming, I guess~  I'm happy and I've got myself a future, and it couldn't look brighter if I polished it. A Sad Christmas...

Twenty kids won't be home for Christmas... Twenty kids won't get to open the presents that their parents carefully picked out and maybe started to wrap for them. If they're already under a tree, they'll sit there, without eager fingers to tear at their wrappings. And Christmas for their parents? I cannot even begin to imagine how their Christmas was ruined.
